ElevenLabs has added a podcast generation feature to its Reader app
ElevenLabs has added a new feature to its Reader mobile app that allows users to generate AI-powered co-hosted podcasts based on any text source they have imported into the app. The GenFM is currently available for iOS Reader app users and will roll out for Android users shortly.
ElevenLabs launched its Reader mobile app (iOS and Android) earlier this year to let users listen to content in text format in 32 languages, including links to news articles, PDF and ePub files, and any other text source they may encounter. Notably, shortly after the Reader app launch, ElevenLabs partnered with the estates of Judy Garland, James Dean, Burt Reynolds, and Sir Laurence Olivier to bring the actors' iconic voices to the ElevenLabs Voice Library for exclusive streaming use through the Reader app.
ElevenLabs announced a new addition to the Reader app on Wednesday: GenFM podcasts. Like Google's NotebookLM, ElevenLabs lets users create AI-generated, co-hosted podcasts in the 32 languages the Reader app supports. However, ElevenLabs' GenFM feature appears to be available within individual text sources, which means the feature is limited to generating a podcast per source. This is a significant difference from the increasingly popular NotebookLM, which lets users create 'notebooks' that can draw data and insights from multiple multimodal sources, effectively allowing users to generate podcasts based on several sources.
Still, ElevenLabs' GenFM offers more flexibility in the choice of voices; the startup claims the two AI-powered co-hosts are matched to the provided content. GenFM podcasts are currently only available on the iOS Reader app and will be rolled out for Android users in the next weeks.
