Meta is officially launching its AI Studio in the US
A few months after Meta started testing its AI Studio by rolling it out to a select group of creators and enabling the distribution of the resulting chatbots on Instagram, Meta recently announced it would officially release the AI Studio to all users in the US. The AI Studio is built on Llama 3.1 and allows anyone to create and discover AI characters based on their interests, and enables creators to leverage AI to extend their reach.
Users can leverage the available templates or craft AI characters from scratch. The AI characters can be suited to various interests, from cooking guides to meme generators, and shared across Meta's platforms. The studio offers customization options for personality, tone, and appearance, making AI creation accessible to all. A step-by-step guide is available to ensure users can make the most out of the platform.
For creators, AI Studio presents an opportunity to extend their reach. AI Studio-created assistants can be set up to handle common queries, such as popular DM questions or story replies. These assistants can be personalized further using creators' Instagram content, instructions on topics to avoid, and provided links to share. Additionally, the platform includes a straightforward way to turn auto-replies on and off and even lets creators decide who receives the replies and who doesn't. Evidently, in line with Meta's policies on responsible AI development, replies by AI assistants are marked as such.
Notable examples of AI characters include chef Marc Murphy's travel dining assistant and photographer Angel Barclay's lens selection guide. Likewise, creators already leveraging AI extensions of themselves include Chris Ashley, Violet Benson, Don Allen, and Kane Kallaway. To chat with these extensions (mobile app only) users only need to tap the Message button with the ✨ icon on creators' Instagram profiles.
This is not the first time Meta has tested chatbot features in its services. Recently, the company launched AI-powered features for WhatsApp Business apps. This aligns with Mark Zuckerberg's vision for the future of AI, as he has publicly discussed several times the idea that Meta will support users in creating AI-powered artifacts that unlock different interactions with their intended audiences.
