Two years after the release of Bing Image Creator and a month after the launch of Copilot Search in Bing, Microsoft has unveiled the next step of its consumer generative AI strategy: Bing Video Creator, a free tool that transforms text prompts into short videos using OpenAI's Sora technology. The feature is now rolling out globally on the Bing mobile app, with support coming soon for desktop and Copilot Search.
Users can create 5-second videos in 9:16 format (with 16:9 support planned) by selecting "Video Creator" in the bottom right corner menu of the Bing mobile app and describing what they want to see or by typing "Create a video of..." directly into the Bing mobile app search bar. Microsoft recommends adding as much detail as possible to prompts, using language depicting actions and scenes, and experimenting with different aesthetics and styles to obtain the best results.
The Bing Video Creator allows users to stack up to three simultaneous generations at a time. Once the three slots are full, users have to wait until one of them frees up to create a new video. Moreover, the service offers two generation speeds: Fast and Standard. Users start with 10 Fast creations, after which they can either use Standard speed or redeem 100 Microsoft Rewards points for additional Fast generations. Once the generations are complete, users are notified so they can download, share, and even refine their creations, which are stored on the platform for 90 days.
To minimize the risk of misuse, Microsoft has implemented robust safety measures, including OpenAI's existing Sora safeguards and additional content moderation to prevent harmful video generation. Each video includes content credentials based on C2PA standards to identify AI-generated content.
