Large language model developer Mistral AI has introduced some major updates to its AI-powered assistant Le Chat. As of Thursday, Le Chat is available as an iOS and Android mobile app, with upcoming support for private deployments. Additionally, the startup announced new paid subscription Pro and Team tiers which bring users benefits such as unlimited messaging and extended usage of additional features like Flash answers, advanced data analysis, and image generation.

Most importantly, paying for Pro allows users to opt their data out from training, while Team users get their data excluded by default. This move has become common in the industry, where rather than offering widespread opt-in mechanisms that do not require a paid subscription, product developers charge for the option to opt user data out (because not even paying gets all users the benefit of choosing whether to opt in). Unlike the Pro and Team tiers, which have fixed pricing, the cost of the Enterprise tier depends on many factors. Like other enterprise offerings, the subscription plan offers organizations every benefit from the Team plan, plus some others exclusive to private deployments, like dedicated support and admin controls.

Mistral AI seems aware it is about to enter a competition dominated by contenders like OpenAI's ChatGPT or Anthropic's Claude. In addition to the new subscription tiers and the availability of the service through mobile apps, Le Chat has been supercharged with a remarkable selection of features. The Flash Answers feature is a standout, where Mistral AI claims that by leveraging "the highest-performing, lowest-latency Mistral models and the fastest inference engines on the planet", its AI-powered assistant is capable of responding to queries faster than any other rival in the market (1,000 words per minute).

In addition to Flash Answers, Le Chat also features image-generation capabilities powered by Black Forest Labs' Flux Ultra, responses grounded with information from the web, journalism agencies, and other sources, vision and coding capabilities, a sandbox for code generation and data analysis, a canvas to iterate on projects such as essays or mockups, and the upcoming Memories feature, which enables Le Chat to remember additional details about the user to customize its outputs to their preferences.

Le Chat is free to use on the mobile and web experiences without a paid subscription, and the Enterprise tier is on a private preview.
