OpenAI brings in two more media and journalism partnerships
The Atlantic and Vox Media recently announced they've entered into strategic partnerships with OpenAI. As with previous partnerships, OpenAI will profit from the partnerships by tapping into both media outlets' content for training and product enhancement. In both partnerships, OpenAI will be able to display content to its audience via ChatGPT and other products with full attribution, simultaneously improving the quality and trustworthiness of information that OpenAI customers have access to, and exposing high-quality journalistic content from The Atlantic and Vox Media to a wider audience. In exchange, The Atlantic and Vox Media will have the opportunity to leverage OpenAI's technologies in several journalism-supporting initiatives.
In addition to granting OpenAI access to the wealth of Vox Media's content, the partnership with the media outlet will also provide Vox Media with opportunities to innovate using OpenAI's technologies by building audience-facing and internal applications and capabilities. Planned applications include enhancing recommendation engines, affiliate commerce tools like The Strategist Gift Scout, and the Forte ad platform for stronger audience targeting. The Forte data platform is available across all Vox Media sites and Vox Media’s ad marketplace, Concert. The OpenAI–Vox Media partnership will benefit advertisers with enhanced campaign performance due to stronger creative optimization and audience segment targeting.
Similarly, OpenAI's partnership with The Atlantic will enable the media outlet to work with OpenAI and define how The Atlantic's content surfaces in OpenAI's products, with features such as full attribution and links back to the original content. The Atlantic will earn early access to OpenAI's technologies to provide experience-based feedback to help shape and improve news experiences in OpenAI's products. Atlantic Labs, The Atlantic's experimental microsite, was set up to investigate how AI can enhance the experience of The Atlantic's journalists and readers. As such, the website will pilot several AI technologies, including those from OpenAI, as part of its mission to "pair journalistic excellence with growth."
