The OpenAI Startup Fund and Thrive Global have joined forces to create Thrive AI Health, a new company dedicated to developing an AI-powered health coach. Lead investors OpenAI Startup Fund and Thrive Global will be joined by the Alice L. Walton Foundation, which will back the new company as a strategic investor. Thrive AI Health aims to leverage the power of AI to democratize access to expert-level health coaching to improve health outcomes and address growing health inequities by simplifying access to behavior change coaching, which could positively impact the challenge of addressing chronic diseases.

DeCarlos Love, former health and wearables product leader at Google, will serve as CEO of the company. Thrive AI Health's approach to providing personalized health coaching consists of prioritizing support across five key health behaviors: sleep, food, fitness, stress management, and connection. To achieve this, the AI coach will be trained on peer-reviewed science, biometric and medical data, and users' preferences to deliver tailored recommendations and insights.

In addition to expanding access to personalized health coaching, a more ambitious mission Thrive AI Health is setting itself has to do with contributing to combat the rising tide of chronic diseases, which account for 90% of the $4.1 trillion U.S. healthcare spending. Starting from the fact that daily behavior directly impacts the likelihood of developing a chronic disease, but that the risk is not equally distributed among demographics, Thrive AI Health hopes to improve health outcomes and reduce healthcare costs globally by leveraging AI to reach underserved communities.

Thrive AI Health's outreach effort will be supported by Dr. Gbenga Ogedegbe, Professor of Population Health & Medicine and Director of NYU Langone's Institute for Excellence in Health Equity, who will serve as Health Equity Advisor to the company. Research partnerships with Stanford Medicine, the Alice L. Walton School of Medicine, and the Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute will help bring the AI Health Coach to diverse communities, emphasizing the potential of AI to transform healthcare from medical education to clinical care.
