A few months ago, Google announced that it no longer considered NotebookLM an experimental product and would launch a version specifically tailored to the needs of power users, businesses, and other organizations. Now, the company has incorporated NotebookLM Plus into the Google One AI Premium plan without modifying the subscription cost, which means paying users will get more value for their money.
Subscribers to the $20/per month plan will get the enhanced version of NotebookLM in addition to Gemini Advanced and Gemini in apps like Mail and Docs. On top of the announcement that NotebookLM Plus will be accessible as part of the Google One AI Premium plan, Google also shared that it would make the subscription more affordable for US-based students under 18 years old with a 50% discount. This enables eligible subscribers to benefit from the plan's features for only $9.99 monthly.
NotebookLM has come a long way since its inception as a Google Labs experiment under the name of 'Project Tailwind'. Upon announcing NotebookLM slowly started building more features into the AI-powered notetaking app/research assistant and making it accessible in more countries and territories. However, the product truly took off only after Google introduced the Audio Overviews feature, which enables users to create an AI-powered podcast based on the contents of their Notebooks. The feature was such as success, it led ElevenLabs and Meta to put their own spin to the idea.
