Anthropic reportedly told prospective investors that third-quarter revenue reached $16.8 billion, according to two people who attended the company’s October 14 investor day in San Francisco. The privately presented figure, which has not been supported by a public audited statement or registration filing, would put the AI company on a $67.2 billion annualized revenue pace ahead of a proposed initial public offering.

According to the attendee accounts, revenue rose 45% from $11.6 billion in the second quarter, after totaling $4.7 billion in the first. They also said Anthropic described itself as profitable on an adjusted basis in the third quarter. The available reporting did not define those adjustments or disclose net income, operating cash flow, stock-based compensation or the accounting treatment of infrastructure commitments. The claim therefore cannot be read as GAAP profitability.

Anthropic has not published the quarter’s revenue-recognition basis, customer concentration, margins or a reconciliation of the adjusted profit measure. The $16.8 billion figure remains a reported result from a private presentation, not an audited public disclosure.

If Anthropic pursues the reported valuation target of more than $2 trillion, that would equal about 29.8 times the quarter’s annualized revenue. It would also be roughly 2.07 times the $965 billion post-money valuation in the company’s $65 billion Series H financing announced in May. The comparisons show scale, not earnings or cash generation, which remain undisclosed for the quarter.

The financing announcement said Anthropic’s run-rate revenue had crossed $47 billion earlier in May. Run-rate revenue and recognized quarterly revenue are different measures. The company has not released enough detail to reconcile the May claim with the $16.8 billion figure presented to investors.

Anthropic confidentially submitted a draft Form S-1 to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on June 1. The company said the submission gave it the option to go public after SEC review. It also said the number of shares and offering price had not been set, and that any offering would depend on market conditions and other factors.

A confidential draft does not make Anthropic’s financial statements public. Under the SEC’s nonpublic review process, an IPO issuer must publicly file its registration statement and draft submissions at least 15 days before a road show, or at least 15 days before effectiveness when there is no road show.
